SIX TO TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE

  • Select date and time

  • Determine preliminary budget
  • Decide on type of wedding you want
  • Decide on color scheme
  • Reserve wedding and reception sites
  • Choose consultant if using one
  • Decide size of guest list and begin compiling names
  • Visit clergy or officiate
  • Choose attendants-men and women
  • Select dress, veil and accessories
  • Select engagement ring
  • Select professional photographer
  • Select a florist
  • Plan reception/ select caterer
  • Sign up for gift registry in the towns of both families
  • Select bridesmaids' dresses
  • Engagement announcements to newspapers
  • Select video production company

THREE TO SIX MONTHS BEFORE

  • Order bridal attire
  • Select and reserve men's attire
  • Check legal requirements for marriage license and
    make appointments for physical and dental exams
  • Order invitations and stationary
  • Shop for wedding rings
  • Plan wedding and reception music
  • Finalize honeymoon plans
  • Mothers coordinate and choose dresses
  • Shop for trousseau
  • Finalize guest list and compile in alphabetical order

TWO MONTHS BEFORE

  • Address wedding invitations and announcements
  • Buy wedding rings
  • Purchase attendants' gifts
  • Order wedding cake
  • Plan rehearsal and dinner
  • Order bridal bouquet, going-away corsage, mothers' corsages, and boutonnieres
ONE MONTH BEFORE
  • Final bridal gown and attendants fittings
  • Get marriage license and blood test
  • Mail invitations
  • Arrange accommodations for out-of-town guests and attendants
  • Have bridesmaids' luncheon
  • Buy groom's wedding gift
  • Have formal bridal portrait taken
  • Arrange for wedding day transportation
  • Final details with all suppliers [ie. caterer, musicians, florist, photographer, etc.]

TWO WEEKS BEFORE

  • Wedding announcement to newspaper
  • Make plans for name change where appropriate
  • Record gifts as you receive them
  • Write thank-you notes immediately
  • Get marriage license
  • Have hair styled as it will be for wedding
  • Mail change-of-address cards if appropriate
  • Take care of all legal and business details
  • Change name and address on bank accounts, drivers license, social security card, etc.

THE LAST WEEK

  • Inform all providers- caterer, photographer, florist-of any changes. Give final account to caterer
  • Confirm plans with clergy and attendants
  • Plan and write wedding-day schedule
  • Attend rehearsal dinner and review duties of all participants
  • Finalize honeymoon plans and pack
  • Final fitting for groom
  • Prepare ' emergency kit' for wedding day of pins, needles, thread and tissues, etc.
  • Prepare seating plan for reception
